Dario Amodei, CEO of AI company Anthropic, has issued a stark warning about the potential impact of artificial intelligence on the workforce. He predicts that AI could eliminate up to 50% of entry-level administrative jobs within the next five years, potentially pushing the U.S. unemployment rate as high as 20%. This projection reflects the growing concern among tech leaders about AI’s disruptive power.

Amodei highlighted that fields like tech, finance, law, and consulting are particularly vulnerable to automation, as many of their entry-level tasks can be performed by large language models (LLMs). He emphasized that while AI could increase productivity, it also poses serious threats to employment if governments and institutions are unprepared for the changes.

He also criticized both the government and the tech industry for not doing enough to mitigate these effects. Amodei called for greater investment in AI safety, better policy planning, and workforce retraining programs to help workers transition into new roles in an AI-driven economy.
